Stephan James is on the Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood issue, out now. Here’s what the actor had to tell about 25-year-old If Beale Street Could Talk…
On staying present and his quickly rising fame:: “I believe I’m learning to be more present. You often have to think to recognize the room you’re in when there’s so much occurring around you.
I consider being in or somewhere in a hotel space in Paris or London, getting a deep breath and being like, ‘ Wow. What a journey! ‘ I live my hopes out. Manifest these stuff literally, and people see and appreciate it.
On inclusive representation in Hollywood: “It would be accurate to claim that we have created improvements. Probably there would be a lie to say we’re totally there. There’s certainly been a ton of progress in elevating variety, and that’s not just with people of colour but also with females.”
On his shy demeanor: “I’m pretty reclusive, so I don’t put my personal life out there.”
On studying criminal forensic psychology at Toronto’s Jarvis Collegiate Institute: “I’ve always been to why criminals are doing what they’re doing. Now with my profession, perhaps one day I can just perform a forensic psychologist. Any directors casting out there?”
