Royals: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan welcome second child

Despite the pandemic, 2021 has already been a turbulent year for Prince Harry and Meghan. Now there is reason to be happy: The couple’s daughter has been born.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have become parents for the second time.

“With great joy Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet” Lili “Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” said a message published on the website of “Archewell”, the foundation of the couple. A spokeswoman confirmed the news to the dpa.

The girl was born on Friday in the hospital in Santa Barbara, California, it said. Both the mother and the child are fine – they have already settled in together at home. “It is more than we ever imagined, and we are grateful for the love and prayers that we have felt from all over the world,” wrote Harry (36) and Meghan (39) in their personal statement.

“Lili” is the second child of Harry and Meghan. Little Archie was born in May 2019 and recently celebrated his second birthday. It had previously been speculated that the couple’s youngest offspring could be named after Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. With “Lili” the girl’s name now also has a clear reference to Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. “Lilibet” is the nickname of the Queen within the family, the message said.
